Breton with Bravo at 2007 Coastal Oaks Miniature Donkey Show
"This year's show was held at the King City
(California) fairgrounds on June 15-17. Overall, it was a good venue with
corrals (not stalls) located in one building and the arena in an adjoining
building. Weather was quite pleasant, actually cool in the evenings.
It must have been those Salinas summer breezes.
We brought our gelding, Boomer, and little Cody.
Well, Cody is not so little, but he's just 2 years old. At the end of the
show, we had won 5 firsts, 4 seconds, a 3rd and a 4th. Boomer did very well in
trail and the driving classes. At 15 years old, he's quite a trooper.
Our granddaughter, Chloe, showed Boomer at halter and did an excellent job.
She's just 10 years old and this was her first time showing. He trotted
nicely for her and stood well and Chloe wore a great outfit.
We enjoyed a BBQ Saturday night and had time to
visit with many of our friends who came from all over California. It's so
much work getting ready for the show, packing up all the stuff we need, getting
animals clipped and bathed, etc. that we sometimes wonder what the heck we're
doing! But, at the end of the show, we realize we actually did have a good time
and I think the main reason is being able to chat with the other exhibitors,
compare notes on how our donkeys are doing, and have a good laugh at
our attempts to work with our wonderful donkeys."

New Sorrel Brood Jennets

Mon Cherie
(left) and Red Robin (right)
Deer Haven Ranch (DHR) added two fine brood jennets
to the herd in December 2006. Mon Cherie and Red Robin were selected for
their ideal sorrel characteristics. Both jennets have excellent breeding
histories and will strengthen DHR's line of exclusively sorrel (light and dark
red) miniature donkeys.
